CMS Guidelines for Teaching Physicians: An Update

sponsored by OU-HCOM Clinical Education Network and OOA

Live in Toledo; Via OU-HCOM Videoconference; or Online

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released information that will alter the requirement for teaching faculty to ‘re-do’ documentation completed by medical students as part of the education process.  Once the new requirements are in place, the teaching physician will be able to verify the work done by students without having to re-document it.

This is a significant improvement over the current documentation requirements. It has implications for volunteer clinical faculty concerned about the work potentially created when teaching, and the teaching hospital with regard to medical student access to and use of the electronic health record.

In order to share the information with educational partners (volunteer clinical faculty and institutions), OU-HCOM has contracted for a CMS consultant, Jill Young, to deliver a one-hour webinar on the topic

Your computing device will require a webcam, a microphone, and a good quality Internet connection (wired instead of wireless if possible). Please close any other web-video clients (i.e., Skype) before placing the call.

If you should lose the Internet connection, dial-in again to restore the link. Your camera should be oriented to display your image. In the interest of an orderly training, please select the “mute” function on the Zoom dashboard to silence your microphone after connecting and only “unmute” your microphone when your participation in the discussion is required (be moderate with your listening volume to avoid feedback or that squelching noise).
